VOX kicked off the autumn season with Urban Jazz Dance Company and Guerilla Opera’s Ululations and Gurgles of the Invisible and our Culturally Competent AD Training series led by Thomas Reid and Cheryl Green for A.R.T./NY. This weekend we gear up for the AD performances of The Huntington’s The Hills of California, accessibility for Mfoniso Udofia’s UFOT cycle continues with AD and OC for CHUANG Stage’s The Ceremony, and Christopher Robinson will be delivering purple power at MassQ Ball.

Vox is continuing accessibility for Mfoniso Udofia’s UFOT Family cycle with culturally competent AD. Experience The Ceremony with us on Saturday, October 4th at 2pm with Audio Description and Open Captions by Vox using CC Theater at the Joan & Edgar Booth TheatreThe AD team includes UFOT all-stars Kwaku Darko (Blind Expert/AD Consultant), Maria Hendricks (in-show AD and mentor), and Joshua Olumide (pre-show AD, the actor who played “Disciple Ufot” in Sojourners and The Grove).

MassQ Ball

Christopher Robinson was selected as the Griot for Mass Q Ball 2025 hosted by Castle of Our Skins and Create & Record. As Griot, his storytelling role at the event is designed to make experiences accessible for Blind, Deaf, and neurodivergent communities and participants for this free cultural event. Think Outside the Vox has partnered with Boston Lyric Opera‘s Macbeth to provide communication access for Deaf actor and 2025 DASL cohort member Léon Jerfita. DASLs Sabrina Dennison and Kristin Johnson have paired up to conduct accessibility training, communication good practices and how to support Deaf talent. Think Outside the Vox partnered with Guerilla Opera and Urban Jazz Dance Company from San Francisco to provide communication access and Audio Description/Tactile Tour. Deaf dancers led by choreographer Antoine Hunter “PurpleFireCrow” performed alongside musicians in ASL with English supertitles projected. We were thrilled to see local Deaf community come and support Urban Jazz Dance Company.

Vox has partnered with A.R.T./New York to host another Culturally Competent Audio Description Training led by Thomas Reid and Cheryl Green. These NYC-based trainees are primarily Blind/Low-Vision VO artists and writers. Learn more and sign up for a future class by visiting our Education page at ThinkOutsideTheVox.org.

Think Outside the Vox endorses the ACE Act (Accessibility in the Creative Economy). This act protects the accessibility work and advocacy we are doing with culturally competent consultants and artists in theaters, museums, education and cultural spaces.
