Salsa ASL by the Shell

Saturday, May 2nd, 1:00pm

Hatch Grove on the Charles River Esplanade.

An accessible ASL salsa dance celebration led by DeafBlind dance Instructor Kerry Thompson. We’re bringing Purple Power with ASL, Audio Description, adaptive instruction, and dance captains – all levels welcome.

This Disability Joy event is free, open to everyone, and funded by a Neighborhood Activation Grant by the Mayor’s Office of Arts & Culture. RSVP and mark your calendar!

The next purple-powered Huntington performances will be Oedipus El Rey: ASL-interpreted on Friday, June 5th at 7:30pm (DASL Ivy Vélez, ASL team Juana Aguilar and Luke Baer) and Audio Described on Saturday, June 6th at 2:00pm (Blind QC Kwaku Darko, pre-show Luis Cotto,

in-show Maria Hendricks).

Congratulations to the AD team of Wait Until Dark!

This was Greater Boston Stage Company’s Audio Description debut. Bravo to Low-Vision lead actress Eliza Barmakian. We had 12 Blind/Low-Vision patrons across both performances and 20 patrons who experienced AD.

In the show, “The ducklings taunt Ugly with bread and patisserie," and Kerry Thompson holds said bread as Zoe delivers a backstage tactile tour.
